Telkom Kenya fixed line redundancy solution goes live

Integrated telecommunication solutions provider Telkom Kenya customers on the firm’s copper fixed line service now have a reason to smile following the activation of a new redundancy solution.
The solution developed to ensure full service availability for Telkom Fixed customers has been unveiled as part of the firm’s ongoing network upgrade project and will ensure full service availability for customers incase of copper cable cuts or any other form of service disruption.
The locally customised solution will essentially be rolled out at a minimum cost for the benefit of Telkom Fixed residential, SME and corporate post paid customers as part of the firm’s service delivery improvement programme.
Speaking when he confirmed the activation of the new service, Telkom Kenya Chief Executive Officer Mr. Mickael Ghossein disclosed that the firm had recently managed to transform its core fixed network platform from its former antiquated analogue platform to a fully digital network.
The Telkom Kenya Boss explained that the network upgrade made possible by the recent integration of a converged Intelligent Network (IN) platform will enable Telkom Kenya to rollout a range of customised value added services while providing double play (voice and data) solutions ahead of a scheduled full triple play (voice, data and video) delivery by mid this year.
“The transformation of the fixed platform to digital capacity is by all means a milestone for Kenya. With this transformation, we are well on the way to unveiling double and triple play solutions on the fixed network,” Ghossein said.

And added: “Already, we have an up and running double play solution showcased by our ongoing Surf and Win promotion not to mention the activation of this redundancy solution which confirms the importance we attach to the fixed network.”

From a technical perspective, wireless mobile solutions are the only form of viable redundancy options for fixed lines.

“For this reason, I am happy to announce that we have successfully developed a redundancy system that is compatible with our CDMA and GSM services, Ghossein affirmed.

With the new solution in place and in the event of any downtime on the Telkom Fixed service, all call traffic will be automatically rerouted to any working Telkom Fixed line, Orange Fixed Plus or Orange Mobile lines ensuring business continuity.

Telkom Fixed customers can provide up to 4 alternate lines to which phone calls can be forwarded to; if their normal line is not picked up within a reasonable time as a result of vandalism or an inadvertent service interruption.

Compatible hardware such as headsets and handsets will also be offered to post paid customers.
